Measuring Up Accurately for Bearings

Posted on December 31, 2020 at 5:08 pm

Measuring up for bearings is essential to make sure your bearings will be the right size. This is especially true if you are ordering them online and need to know that they will be the correct dimensions for your application, whether your industry is automobiles, machinery, production, or anything else at all.

To measure up for bearings such as turntable bearings, you’ll usually use vernier calipers. These will allow you to measure the inside and outside sections accurately, so you can pick the correct bearing measurements. From there, you can then choose the right size online. There should be measuring guides available for different bearings to help you make your selection – if there is not, it is usually worth contacting customer service so you can order the right bearing size. Ordering the wrong size could mean causing friction and the bearing not working properly, and could even cause serious damage and harm to both machinery and people.

The Importance of Approved Parts

Posted on October 23, 2020 at 11:48 pm

When you experience problems with a car it will often need to have parts replaced, such as component, bearings, tyres, or other parts of the car body. The parts that are used should, wherever possible, be manufacturer approved parts so that they will be of the same quality and will not compromise the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle. This is very important because it is integral to safety, and it will often be important because of the warranty too. If a vehicle is still in warranty, parts will usually need to be replaced with like for like parts or approved parts in order to keep this warranty valid.

Approved parts may not necessarily be from the same brand as the car. However, the fact that they are approved means they are safe and reliable. Where it is relevant, they also will not void any warranties on the vehicle either.

Car Parts and Bearings – What is Required?

Posted on August 16, 2020 at 11:22 am

Cars are made up of many parts. There is the engine, the wheels, the mechanical systems, the steering, the brakes… and many more systems contained inside one small vehicle. However parts are not always obvious – you won’t always need a new wheel, for example. You may just need a new bearing or part for the wheel that will make it safe again and will extend its lifespan.

If you are going to replace any parts, they need to be compatible with your car model. This means they need to either be from the right brand, or they need to be an accepted spare compatible part. If you use the wrong car parts this might void any guarantees you have on the vehicle and it can cause more problems, even if you don’t notice them at first. Make sure you buy parts and bearings with the right specifications and if you need help, seek it from a mechanic.

Getting a Reasonable Price for Car Parts

Posted on September 27, 2019 at 11:51 pm

Car parts and components might be quite expensive, especially if you buy high quality parts. However, it will still be significantly cheaper for you to buy your own parts and fit them, so you don’t have to pay to have someone fit them, and pay a premium on the parts as well. The most important thing is to find out what is a reasonable price to pay so you can make sure you are within that bracket.

If you have a car repair that is more difficult or complex, then inevitably it will cost more for you. You will need to have it completed in a specialist garage, where the cost of labour will be more and the parts might well cost more to order in as well. However, you need to remember that it’s worth it for the sake of your car, its longevity and how well it will last.

Sourcing Bearing Inserts for Cars

Posted on April 29, 2019 at 10:14 pm

Bearings are used in many different kinds of machinery and vehicles, including cars. In fact, bearings can be found in some shape or form within various parts of your car, making sure it runs just as it should and is safe and roadworthy. They can be found in many different parts of the car, most often in the wheels, where their main job is to allow the wheels to spin around as they should without causing friction. They will have an axle shaft, that sits inside a hub, which also contains bolts that join the steering wheel to the wheels. You see, bearings form some of the most important mechanisms within the modern-day car. In particular, bearing inserts have an important role to play, and due to the extended inner rings, they don’t require lock nuts or bearing adaptor sleeves.

You might also hear bearing inserts being called Y-bearings. This will largely depend on the industry. Some people will call them bearing inserts, and others will simply be more comfortable with the term Y-bearings. If you are buying bearings online, be aware that both descriptions refer to the same thing.

Using the right bearing will depend on the way the bearing is located on the shaft, with different applications requiring a different bearing to hold it together and make it function safely and effectively. Some bearing inserts will using an eccentric locking collar, and others will be fitted to the shaft with grub screws. Some are tapered to allow for an adaptor sleeve for a preferred size.

How do you know you might need new bearings?

It’s not always immediately obvious when you need new bearings on a particular part of your machinery or vehicle. Often it will stop working in the way it should, indicating that something needs to be repaired or changed. However, it shouldn’t really get to this stage before you replace a bearing – you could be in danger or something happening like losing a wheel, which could have dangerous and even devastating consequences. Regular inspections should be able to tell you whether you need to replace bearing inserts and whether your car is safe to be on the road.

Buying the exact bearing inserts you need

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of bearing products on the market, and even many bearing inserts. This makes it more challenging to buy the exact bearings you require for your vehicle or machinery application. It is becoming easier to get hold of parts though, mainly thanks to the internet and the advanced suppliers that are out there selling bearings and bearing inserts. You can find bearing suppliers across the internet and many will have high quality bearings available that can be bought in many different shapes and sizes. This also means there are knowledgeable people selling the bearings, who can answer any of your questions and point you in the direction of wheel bearings, bearings and bearing inserts that you will need for the safe and effective operation of your vehicle.

When Does a Car Need an MOT?

Posted on September 26, 2018 at 8:41 pm

As a general rule, cars in the UK will need to pass an MOT when they reach 3 years old. This will be 3 years since the day they were registered, and the MOT certificate will need to be obtained on or before this date if you want to continue driving your care legally.

If your vehicle doesn’t pass its MOT, then it must have the MOT done again. You do need an MOT in order to drive your vehicle, so it is very important you get this. If your car needs to have some repairs, you will need to get these done, then have the MOT performed again. You can often have the repair work carried out at a garage of your choice, however, if the problem is a serious one, you will need to have it carried out at the garage where the MOT is performed. You may also have advisories, which are points to watch out for.

Is an Approved Garage a Requirement?

Posted on August 30, 2018 at 11:06 pm

Servicing your vehicle is an essential part of keeping it in good working order and giving it an overhaul. However, you will be presented with lots of options for servicing and may not know which to choose. One option is the choice of going to an approved garage and servicing centre, where the parts used will be approved by your vehicle’s manufacturer. The mechanics who work there should also be well trained in the methods employed by the car’s brand, so that any repairs will be in keeping with the vehicle and will look like it did before the damage.

If you own the vehicle, you don’t need to use an approved garage and it is entirely up to you whether you do or not. If your care is on a finance deal, you will usually need to have any repairs made using an approved garage to protect your warranty.

How to Learn to Drive

Posted on May 17, 2018 at 10:32 pm

Learning to drive is one of the most beneficial things you will do. It will be your passport to freedom, giving you access to lots of different places. If you choose to learn to drive, here are some pointers:

  • Get a good instructor. You should choose someone you feel safe and comfortable with, as well as who is a good teacher. If you don’t get on with your teacher, find someone else. Driving lessons are expensive and you shouldn’t work with someone who isn’t right for you.
  • Practise as often as you can. If possible, practise daily, so you get used to driving in different situations and with different road conditions. This will help you become a well rounded driver.
  • Don’t take your test too soon. Wait until you are ready and feel comfortable with the idea of driving alone. Once you do pass, don’t rush into driving on motorways or driving long distances – some people say you only really learn to drive after you’ve passed your test.

Finding a Dealer Approved to Carry Out Work on your Car Brand

Posted on December 26, 2017 at 11:02 pm

You don’t need to visit an approved dealer. However, if you do, the quality of the work is likely to be better. Also, if you need something like an engine part for your vehicle, this is likely to be the correct part and to last you longer if you go to a garage that uses approved parts for your specific car model.

If you have got your car on PCP finance and may be giving it back after a certain period of time, you need to use an approved garage for any work. Otherwise, you may be charged to have the work re-done at the end of your contract. You will probably also need to have services and MOTs performed at an approved centre.

The decision largely depends on the nature of the work carried out. If it is a bodywork repair, a specialist repairer won’t necessarily need to be approved by your brand. For engines, approved parts are a must.
