If you take one look at the Crosstour you can easily mistake it for a bulky family car but it is classed as hatchback. There’s no doubt that it is a large hatchback, but you can choose between a 2.4-litre engine or a 3.5-litre V6, and that’s not exactly an option you get with the majority of other hatchbacks.

The Crosstour is renowned for its astonishing safety record, and it has earned 5 stars for a all of its passenger areas by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The interior is classy, and there’s the benefit of leather seats, a smart navigation system, a Bluetooth infotainment system, an engine start button, ample space and a rear-view camera.

There are a number of reasons why the Cross tour should not be deemed a hatchback. And while it certainly won’t be cheap on insurance for young drivers, it’s designed to be nippy and safe with really smooth handling, and that’s exactly what modern hatchbacks are all about.
